Wharton MBA Essay Tips and Deadlines for 2022 – 2023

In this series of essays, the Wharton School tries to figure out who you are and what drives you. Wharton places a premium on the value of diversity and collaboration. Wharton is looking for students that will get along well with one another and who are eager to study. The admissions committee at Wharton has two objectives: a) choose the top candidates; and b) balance the abilities, aptitudes, backgrounds, and experience of the entering MBA class. Keeping this in mind, let’s see how Mentor Mpact can help you write Wharton’s essays.

Wharton MBA Essay Question 1

How do you plan to use the Wharton MBA program to help you achieve your future professional goals? You might consider your past experiences, short and long-term goals, and resources available at Wharton. (500 words)

This career objective question focuses on why you should attend Wharton. It is, however, a question about your personality as well as your chances of success in the program. Wharton is a one-of-a-kind school, and your essay should reflect this.

  • You must outline your professional ambitions in this essay and briefly explain why they are realistic for you in the context of your career progression to date.
  • Then you must consider how you will use and engage with Wharton’s resources to seek and achieve your objectives.
  • Look for meaningful connections between your interests and goals and the things you plan to engage in, not just a few program options.
  • To do this efficiently, you can work on a paper and draw a line down the middle. On the left, you’ll list Wharton resources that can benefit you, and on the right side how will you help Wharton. You’re basically breaking things down into a give-and-take scenario.
  • And when considering the personal growth component of this essay, we recommend that you consider what your genuine weaknesses are and how you can use your two years in business school to improve them.

Remember that you’re writing your essay for Wharton, not any other MBA program.

Wharton MBA Essay Question 2

Taking into consideration your background – personal, professional, and/or academic – how do you plan to make specific, meaningful contributions to the Wharton community? (400 words)

Wharton has a demanding academic environment. It does, however, have a robust community focused on collaboration, teamwork, and learning from one another.

  • Consider your personal history as you choose a topic for this essay. What have you done in the past to demonstrate your ability to contribute?
  • Make a list of everything else you’ve learned in your work or as an undergraduate that you think could be useful to your Wharton classmates.
  • In the classroom, clubs, or small group projects, you can make a difference in the Wharton community. Because you have shown originality in the past, you may be able to provide creative ideas to your learning team while you plan a research project.
  • The Admissions Committee wants to learn more about you and your distinct personality, as well as how it may benefit the Wharton community. Tell them how you intend to make a difference.

Reapplicant essay

Please use this space to share with the Admissions Committee how you have reflected and grown since your previous application and discuss any relevant updates to your candidacy (e.g., changes in your professional life, additional coursework, and extracurricular/volunteer engagements). (250 words)

You have to show your sustained interest in Wharton by describing how you have improved your skills and yourself since your previous submission.

  • The most effective reapplicant essay will show how you’ve enhanced the complete package you’re submitting this year.
  • GMAT results or new quantitative classes, for example, are particularly relevant and convincing. However, a promotion, more responsibilities at work, a job change, or even a shift in mission and goals can all be considered legitimate revisions.
  • Make sure to reflect your ability to receive feedback and improve when you outline your adjustments.
  • After examining your strengths and shortcomings, describe how you approached the reapplication process. It’s also a good idea to describe your attempts to improve.

Optional Essay

Please use this space to share any additional information about yourself that cannot be found elsewhere in your application and that you would like to share with the Admissions Committee.

The optional essay is an excellent chance to address any concerns you may have about your application.

  • Wharton looks for strong academics as well as quantitative abilities. You may use this place to highlight any extenuating circumstances that you would like the Admissions Committee to consider (e.gunexplained gaps in job experience, recommender selection, inconsistent or questionable academic performance, areas of weakness, etc.).
  • Disciplinary action in undergrad could also be an important topic. Begin by simply and briefly stating the problem. Then, illustrate how you’ve improved and addressed any concerns using evidence.
  • Finally, talk about how you want to keep the momentum going.
