Rotman School Of Management MBA Essay Tips and Deadlines for 2022 – 2023

Our admitted students stand out by doing interesting things with their personal and professional lives — something we describe as the ‘spike factor’; what are the things that you have done in your life that demonstrate Passion/ Grit/ Resilience/ Innovation/ Drive/ Ambition and more? This can cross all or any aspects of life outside of work – hobbies, volunteerism, awards, entrepreneurial ventures, sports and the arts. We believe that exposure to a rich diversity of viewpoints makes for a superior learning experience, and pride ourselves on building a diverse class of exceptional individuals who will go on to make the School proud as professionals and alumni.

Explain your spike factor (something unique about yourself) that you believe will contribute to the Rotman community and is aligned with Rotman values. (up to 1000 words)

You must make this essay and the stories it contains more than just exciting; they should also make readers smile or shake their head and think, “Yes!” They should get a tingle of pleasure from reading it. “Explain.” This word, but on the other hand, has the potential to lead to prolonged abstractions. Make any explanation brief and to the point. You must explicitly explain your “spike factor.” But you don’t really have to do it at the beginning of the essay. It is preferable to begin the essay with an anecdotal story to pique the reader’s interest.

Once you’ve decided on the spike factor to the current moment, find 1-3 illustrative anecdotal stories from outside of your job role and from work that demonstrate it – if more than just one, make absolutely sure they show different situations. And be deliberate about the anecdotes you use; where are some desirable “zoom-in” instances or perspectives from your (ideally recent) life which would improve your application in appropriate format? Fill in the blanks of your identity with this essay. In terms of the spike factor, you do not need this exotic point that no one else would ever consider. Rather, look to your own perception and personality to find a point that demonstrates your candidness. Also, remember that Rotman also requires a video essay, thus ensure to plan ahead to give your best!

• All international applicants (excluding US Citizens) are highly encouraged to apply by Round Three in order to ensure ample time for visa processing after accepting the offer of admission.
