Darden School of Management MBA Essay Tips for 2021-2022

Darden focuses on leadership, international exposure, as well as a sense of passion and enthusiasm in these Darden MBA essays. Individuals will want to converse who you really are and what encourages you in all of these writings. In addition, in your essays, consider both your professional and personal lives. The limited word count can make responding difficult, so keep focused and precise. To begin, consider how important leadership is to potential Darden MBAs. Also, because Darden is a small, close-knit community, teamwork is the key. Read on to know how to write Darden’s MBA essays.

Darden MBA demands the following prompts from its candidates:

Tell us what you would want your Learning Team to know about you that is not on your resume. (150 words)

Generally speaking, the learning team is a positive environment in which everyone is free to express their feelings. This essay gives you the opportunity to expose yourself to the Darden community while envisioning yourself speaking to a small band of your fellow students. What information about your backstory could perhaps your learning team be aware of? What different insight will you bring to the classroom? Perhaps you have distinctive professional experiences that your team members will not have. You could be from an underprivileged part of the world, or you could have a persuasive specific experience. Describe within a few words what you believe will set you apart from your peer group and be intriguing for the team to understand about you.

Darden strives to identify and cultivate responsible leaders who follow their purpose. Please respond to one of the following prompts. (200 words)

Q1: Tell us about a time when you acted with a team to solve a problem or seize an opportunity. What role did you play? What did you learn from this experience?

Q2: Tell us about a time you acted to solve a problem for the greater good. What drew you to this issue? What did you learn from this experience?

You must have strong analytical skills, but you must also demonstrate your desire to make an impact. Whatever topic you choose for this essay, you must start sharing one example of how you used your zeal – ideally in conjunction with your quantitative and leadership qualities – to shape an organisation or competitive landscape. A CAR (Challenge-Action-Results) format will assist you in demonstrating the before-and-after portrait of this scenario to demonstrate your implication, but make absolutely sure you tell the real story – not just what you did, but then also why: what else were you thinking? What obstacles arose, and how did you overcome them? Finally, investigate your discoveries – about people and how to guide them through troubles for the greater good.

Please respond to one of the following prompts (200 words)

Q1: Share a time when you learned something related to diversity, equity or inclusion that was previously unknown to you. How did this experience impact your perspective?

Q2: Share a time when you advocated for a perspective, identity, or community different from your own. How did this experience impact your worldview?

This question is based on equality and diversity particularly. As a result, in your example, you must consider your track record of interaction with diverse identities as well as societies. Consider any extended periods when you lived and worked in a culture other than your own. One of the answers to this question concentrates on your knowledge of diversity. As a result, it might have been an encounter with a different culture or identity. Take into account how you altered your approach or significantly expanded your thoughts as a result. The second option is more productive; it refers to a step you took to advocate for someone else. However, you might have discovered that you learned a lot about yourself as well. Perhaps you managed to learn a more balanced approach to a society or people as a result of your advocacy. Alternatively, you may have revealed your own weak points and prejudices. In this question, self-reflection is encouraged.

What is your short-term, post-MBA goal, and how does it align with the long-term vision you have for your career? (150 words)

You must explain why you are seeking an MBA from Darden in this essay. You must outline your professional ambitions in this essay and briefly explain why they are realistic for you in the context of your career progression to date. Keep in mind that this question is simply both for short and long-term goals, so make sure you answer your short term goals considering your long-term route in mind. Your short-term goal profession should ideally transition to your long-term goal career, and an MBA degree is required for both courses. Then you must consider how you will use and engage with Darden’s resources to seek and achieve your objectives. Look for meaningful connections between your interests and goals and the things you plan to engage in, not just a few program options. Then, you need to demonstrate how you are preparing and keeping the momentum going.

The Batten Foundation Worldwide Scholarship provides all Darden students in our full-time MBA program with an opportunity to participate in a Darden Worldwide Course. If you could choose any location in the world, where would you want to travel, and why? (55 words)

Darden offers a variety of regional and global experiential learning programs and wants all students to participate in at least one international opportunity all through their two-year program. Applicants should choose a location somewhere within the world that interests them and afterwards explain in detail the opportunity to gain knowledge or make a real impact that they see there. Ideally, this experience will be related to your previous experiences or long term goals in some way.
